1st Sustainable Textile Conference by CU Korea: Steps Toward True Sustainability in the Fashion Industry

On May 9, 2024, Control Union Korea held the 1st Sustainable Textile Conference in Seoul. The event aimed to address the growing concerns about greenwashing in the fashion industry and emphasized the need for transparent and objective third-party certification to ensure genuine sustainability.

The conference was divided into three sections: Domestic Sustainable Trends, Sustainable Strategy for Fashion Brands & Retail, and Solutions for Sustainability Direction. Various speakers attended and shared their insights.
The first section, ‘Domestic Sustainable Trends,’ covered sustainability-related trends and cases currently happening in Korea. Several companies introduced their sustainable projects and discussed the lessons learned and future plans.
The second section, ‘Sustainable Strategy for Fashion Brands & Retail,’ explored how fashion brands and retailers are building sustainable business strategies. Speakers delved into integrating sustainability into business models, enhancing supply chain transparency, and creating sustainable products that consumers can trust.
The third section, ‘Solutions for Sustainability Direction,’ discussed specific solutions and directions for sustainability. This included topics such as technological innovation, recycling and upcycling, and using environmentally friendly materials. The importance of policy support and collaboration between companies for sustainable development was particularly emphasized

The conference concluded successfully with many attendees. Participants gained a deeper understanding of sustainability and had the opportunity to share ideas that can drive real change in the fashion industry. We hope that such conferences will continue to be held regularly, contributing to the development of a sustainable fashion industry.
