Structural Condition Assessment (SCA)

Thorough visual examination

The inspection procedure involves a thorough visual examination of the plant, encompassing all building and structural elements. Inspections may align with standards such as SEI/ASCE 11-99, as well as national or company-specific requirements. The assessment considers various types of steel structures and infrastructure, including but not limited to:

  • structural steel supporting vessels, silos, bins, tanks or other process equipment,
  • plant infrastructure, such as work platforms, decks, walkways, handrail systems, staircases and ladders,
  • supports for lifting devices (runway beams) and fall protection systems,
  • structural components of buildings and roofs,
  • and concrete structures and foundations.

To ensure the integrity of the inspected plant, more in-depth inspections utilizing advanced non-destructive methods such as ultrasonic wall thickness measurements or phased array ultrasonic testing may be conducted. Additionally, other inspections, such as plant inspections or inspections specific to fiber-reinforced plastics (FRP), can be incorporated into the structural condition assessment.

Control Union shares extensive knowledge related to structural assessments as a trusted partner in the industry. This helps enhance safety, mitigate risks, and maintain the integrity of your industrial infrastructure.

Detailed and transparent reporting

A comprehensive report is issued upon completion of the assessment, documenting the existing conditions, reviewed components, and observations on structural integrity. If any deficiencies are found, rehabilitation recommendations will be given. The report substantiates observations and engineering assessments with photographic documentation of the structures and field measurements.
